My work explores the shifting light, atmosphere, and rhythmic textures of the coastal environment. Rooted in the visual landscape of Cape Cod, each piece captures the quiet balance between land, sea, and sky—from the intricate, pointillist detail of a pebble shoreline to the sweeping, fluid motion of a stormy sea.

Working primarily in acrylics, I layer expressive brushwork, scraped textures, and dry-brush application to build tactile surfaces that reflect the coast's ever-changing moods. Whether capturing distant harbor lights at dusk or the warm, luminous glow over marshlands, my process focuses on translating transient moments of natural light into enduring visual rhythm. Together, these paintings offer an intimate, contemplative perspective on the coastal elements that shape our connection to the shore.” Valerie Gates
